Decoding the genetics
behind health in Africa

The Ramsuran Lab studies how human genetic and epigenetic variation shapes susceptibility, progression, and treatment response in HIV, TB and other infectious diseases.

Who we are

Led by Prof. Veron Ramsuran

The Ramsuran Lab integrates human genetics, genomics, epigenetics, immunology and bioinformatics to understand host genetic factors in HIV, TB, COVID-19, autoimmune and metabolic disease, and cancer.

Based within the Medical Microbiology Department at UKZN's Howard College Campus, the lab is closing the gap in African genomic data — and training the scientists who'll lead that work.
